Five purified preparations of ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs ), trichosanthin, momorcharin, saporin, luffin and gelonin were shown to exhibit ribonuclease activity, under PH 5.0, with celery 4.5 S RNA as substrates. The autoradiography showed that different RIPS had different base specificities on RNA molecules.
