    Abstract:

A β-1,3-1,4-glucanase is encoded by bglS gene from B. subtilis. The synthesis of the gene product BglS in E. coli is affected by various hosts, different vectors and orientation of the gene fragment.By protein localization analysis and zymogram analysis of active enzyme molecules, we have found that the enzyme has two active molecules (32 kD and 27 kD) in E. coli and the amount of the enzyme in the periplasmic space is very small. The presence of different active products and the specificity of secretion pattern in E.coli may be due to the difference between E.coli and B.subtilis in the protein processing and translocation.
