The pepsinogen with higher moleculer weight was purified from human gastric mucosa. The procedure included DEAE-52 ion-exchange chromatography and gel filtration HPLC. This 67 ku pepsinogen resists alkalinization up to pH 10.8. The optimal pH of the pepsinogen is 1.8 and its specific proteolytic activity is 5.96 U/mg.
