The androgen receptor(AR) belongs to the steroid hormone receptor superfamily that is a ligand-dependent transcription factor. It can regulate gene transcription through binding to specific DNA element. The action mechanism of androgen receptors is summarized with a special emphasis on the specificity of the function of androgen receptors.
