    Abstract:

The function of water-stress-inducible gene products and signal transduction in water-stress response was mainly introduced. Genes induced during water-stress conditions are thought to function not only in protecting cells from water deficit but also in the regulation of genes for signal transduction in water-stress response. At least four independent signal transduction pathways exist between the initial dehydration signal and gene expression, two are ABA independent and two are ABA dependent, one of the ABA-dependent pathways requires protein biosynthesis, one of the ABA-independent pathways overlaps with that of the cold response.
